‘I’m bigger than your father’ — Wizkid fires back at Seun Kuti

Popular Afropop musician and Grammy Award winner, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has fired back at Seun Kuti amid controversy surrounding the preservation of the legacy of Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The controversy began last week after Seun criticised Wizkid’s fan base, Wizkid FC, for allegedly disrespecting his father’s legacy by comparing Wizkid to Fela. His reaction followed a viral video in which a Wizkid fan made the comparison.
Seun sustained his criticism through a series of Instagram story posts and later spoke on Morayo Afolabi’s show, stating that he was not prepared to back down. His stance later drew Wizkid into the public exchange.
While some members of the public criticised Seun for amplifying what they considered a minor issue, others praised him for standing firm in defence of his father’s legacy. A YouTube content creator, @rhyme2bobo, also weighed in, faulting Seun for reacting to a fan’s video he described as insignificant and engagement-driven.
The situation escalated further after a video surfaced in which Motunrayo Kuti, Seun Kuti’s elder sister, angrily lashed out at Wizkid and his family over the comparison with Fela, using strong and abusive language.
Wizkid responded by directly attacking Seun on Instagram, tagging his handle and posting insults while declaring himself bigger than Fela. The post quickly generated widespread reactions online. “Pu**y boy @thenigbirdkuti, ok I big pass your papa!!! Wetin you wan do? Fool at 40! @bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz, everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin you wan do, fool? Hungry bastard,” he wrote.
Shortly after, Wizkid deleted the post, prompting Seun Kuti to mock him for backing down and question his courage in another social media post. “Just be yourself, short man, you’re also great. You go delete now. You no get mind. Who be pu**y boy now, bitch?” he said.
The controversy has continued to spark debate, with many fans defending Wizkid and accusing Seun of overreacting, while others, including content creator Geh Geh, insisted that Fela’s pioneering role in Afrobeat should not be diminished or casually compared.
