IMG UK seeks collaboration with NBC on sports economy

The International Management Group (IMG) UK has sought collaboration with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in improving the ecosystem of sports development in Nigeria.

A delegation from the company led by Robyn Cox, its African representative, in company of Mr. Shehu Dikko, the National Commissioner for Sports, visited the NBC headquarters on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Dikko stated that the primary purpose of the visit was to seek collaboration with the NBC, recognizing its critical role as a broadcasting regulator.

He added “The meeting focused on improving the ecosystem of sports development in Nigeria, highlighting three key pillars for achieving this goal: viewing sports as a national asset, enacting the right legislation, and providing adequate infrastructure”

Additionally, Mr. Rotimi Pedro of Afrosport reiterated that the project, an initiative of the Federal Government, aims to re-engineer the economics of sports in Nigeria to ensure it contributes significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He emphasized that capacity building is vital to the success of this initiative.

The Director-General, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, welcomed the IMG team to the Commission and expressed his appreciation for their visit.

He noted that the collaboration would bring about positive changes not only in sports development and broadcasting but also in the country’s broader economic landscape.

He emphasized that appropriate legislation is crucial and assured the team that the Commission would partner with them and other relevant stakeholders.
