In two years, FCT overtakes Lagos as Nigeria’s top foreign investment destination

At $3.05 billion in first quarter (Q1) of 2025, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has surpassed Lagos state ($2.56 billion in Q1 2025) as Nigeria’s top foreign investment destination.
This is according to the latest report by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report titled, ““Nigeria Capital Importation Q1 2025”.

The bureau stated that capital inflows into Nigeria surged to $5.6 billion in the Q1 2025, representing a 67.12per cent increase compared to $3.4 billion recorded in Q1 2024.
The report noted that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos received the highest amount of capital importation in Q1 2025.

“Out of the five states that recorded capital importation during the quarter, Abuja (FCT) remained the top destination with US$3047.45 million, accounting for 54.11per cent of the total capital imported. Lagos State followed with $2564.68 million (45.44per cent), and Ogun State with US$7.95million (0.14per cent).
“Others were Oyo and Kaduna States with US$7.81 Million and 4.06million respectively,” the NBS report stated.
