INEC concludes PVC collection at ward level in Edo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the successful conclusion of the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) at the ward level in Edo State.

The Commission stated that the exercise, which took place across all 192 wards from Thursday, August 22nd to Monday, August 26th, 2024, saw significant participation from eligible voters.

According to a statement by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission meticulously organized the distribution of PVCs by polling units, wards, and local government areas (LGAs) to streamline the process.

The statement added that a collection register detailing voters whose cards were ready was made available online, and the Commission reached out to voters using the contact information provided during registration.

“Out of the 184,438 newly registered PVCs, a total of 125,928 were collected, representing 68.3% of the total—marking the highest percentage of PVCs collected within a five-day period since INEC introduced Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) for off-cycle governorship elections in 2015,” Olumekun noted.

“The Commission has uploaded a detailed breakdown of PVC collection by LGA on its website and social media platforms for public viewing,” the statement continued.

INEC has also announced that the collection of PVCs will resume at its 18 LGA offices in Edo State from Wednesday, August 28th, and will continue until Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Voters who have yet to collect their PVCs are encouraged to do so in person, as collection by proxy is not allowed. Detailed information on the locations of INEC’s LGA offices is available on the Commission’s website.
