By Adejayan Gbenga –

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially listed five candidates for the August 16, 2025, bye-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

According to a statement released by the commission, the Labour Party (LP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are not fielding candidates in the election, as they failed to submit nominations before the deadline.

The bye-election is being conducted to fill the vacant House of Representatives seat following the death of Hon. Olaide Akinremi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who passed away on July 10, 2024.

INEC’s final list shows that the five cleared candidates include Oyekunle Folajimi Sunday (PDP), Hammed Badmus (ZLP), Akin Alamu Dexter Femi (ADC), Olatunji Haastrup Adewale (APC), and Odususi Olajumoke Olabisi (APGA).

At 42, Oyekunle Folajimi Sunday of the Peoples Democratic Party is the youngest candidate, while Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party, aged 78, is the oldest in the race.

The commission said all political parties and their candidates are expected to adhere strictly to the election timetable and guidelines ahead of the polls.

As the campaigns gather pace, political parties have begun mobilising support across wards in the constituency in preparation for what is expected to be a keenly contested election.
