INEC moves Osun governorship campaign start to August 13

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjusted the commencement date for campaigns ahead of the Osun State governorship election to August 13, 2026.
The decision follows a shift in the election date by one week, from August 8 to August 15, 2026, as contained in the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC national commissioner for information and voter education, said the adjustment necessitated a corresponding change in the campaign timeline.
He explained that with the new election date, political parties are expected to conclude their campaigns by midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in compliance with the Electoral Act.
Haruna noted that Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 stipulates that all political campaigns must end at least 24 hours before election day.
The commission urged political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timetable to ensure a smooth electoral process.
INEC also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and inclusive elections across the country.
