The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receipt of the contact details of representatives of the petitioners seeking to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.

In a statement on Wednesday, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, announced that a formal notification letter had been sent to the Senator in accordance with the Commission’s 2024 Regulations and Guidelines for Recall.

According to INEC, the letter was delivered to the Senator’s official address, copied to the Senate presiding officer, and published on the Commission’s website.

The next step, INEC stated, is to scrutinize the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to ensure it meets the constitutional requirement—more than 50% of registered voters in the constituency must sign the petition for the recall process to proceed.

INEC assured the public that the verification process will be conducted transparently, and its outcome will determine the next steps.
