Information Minister pays tribute to late Tribune journalist Dr. Leon Usigbe

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Dr. Leon Habby Usigbe, the Abuja Bureau Chief of Tribune Newspaper, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most cerebral and patriotic journalists.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, Idris paid glowing tribute to the late journalist, highlighting his integrity, intellect, and commitment to democratic values.
“Dr. Usigbe was an outstanding journalist and a shining light in Nigeria’s media landscape,” the Minister said. “He brought depth, rigour, and insight to his reporting and was a true patriot who used his craft to promote accountability and national development.”
Idris particularly recalled Dr. Usigbe’s impactful contributions during the regular ministerial press briefings in Abuja and at the Presidential Villa, where his thoughtful interventions consistently enhanced public discourse and strengthened the relationship between the media and government.
“His eloquence and clarity elevated every conversation. His death is a monumental loss not only to Tribune and the journalism profession but also to the entire nation,” the Minister said.
The late Dr. Usigbe, who hailed from Edo State, was widely respected by colleagues, government officials, and the public for his fearless journalism and unwavering commitment to truth.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Minister extended condolences to the management and staff of Tribune Newspaper, the government and people of Edo State, and the family and associates of the deceased.
“May God Almighty comfort those he has left behind and grant them the fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
