IPMAN accuses Anambra govt of N900m debt, warns of fuel price hike

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has accused the Anambra State Government of owing its members over N900 million for diesel supplied to power streetlights across the state.

IPMAN warned that unless the outstanding debt was urgently settled, the development could trigger a fuel price hike that may push pump prices as high as N3,000 per litre.

The Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu Depot Community, Chief Chinedu Anyaso, made the disclosure on Sunday in Enugu shortly after the association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said the debt had been recurring for over a year despite three formal letters and direct appeals made to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other state officials.

“Till now, nothing has been done. The government has continued to owe our members who supplied diesel for streetlight projects in Anambra,” Anyaso said.

He explained that the association had resolved to take a diplomatic approach by writing the governor again on the issue of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from filling stations in Anambra.

According to him, IPMAN is reluctant to direct its members to embark on strike or suspend fuel sales, noting that such action would worsen hardship for ordinary citizens.

“We do not want to compound the suffering of the people, but the government must act quickly to settle this debt and prevent further disruption,” he added.
