Itire-Ikate community joins the fight against Malaria

In a remarkable show of solidarity, residents of Itire-Ikate came together to mark the 2024 World Anti-Malaria Day at the council secretariat on Airways Rd. Ijesha.

Organized in collaboration with the West Development Initiative and Diya Fatimilehin and Co., the event aimed to accelerate efforts in the fight against malaria under the theme “Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World.”

The Chairman, Itire-Ikate LCDA, Ahmed Apatira, said that the massive turnout at the event underscored the community’s unwavering commitment to combating malaria, with residents demonstrating a shared determination to foster a healthier environment.

He added that Local organizations and community leaders played a pivotal role in fostering this collaborative spirit, amplifying the impact of the initiatives undertaken.

A wide array of healthcare services were provided to residents during the event, ranging from free malaria tests to blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.

Additionally, consultations and free medication were offered to support individuals in managing their health effectively.

One of the key highlights of the event was the distribution of mosquito nets, a proactive measure aimed at preventing malaria transmission.

The organizers remarked that by equipping residents with these essential resources, individuals are not only shielded from mosquito bites but also benefit from long-term malaria prevention strategies.

The LCDA chairman emphasized that the event served as a platform for raising awareness about malaria and its impact on communities.

Through educational sessions and informational materials, he asserted that attendees gained valuable insights into the importance of preventive measures and early detection.

He added that, the 2024 World Anti-Malaria Day in Itire-Ikate symbolized the collective determination to overcome one of the world’s most pressing health challenges.

“Through community engagement, healthcare provision, and awareness-building activities, the event laid a strong foundation for a future where malaria no longer poses a threat to global health security,” he added.
