I’ve no interest in downsizing my cabinet, says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has categorically stated that he has no plans to reduce the size of his cabinet, emphasizing its necessity for achieving his administration’s objectives.

Speaking during his first presidential media chat on Monday, Tinubu defended the structure and composition of his cabinet, which has faced criticism in some quarters for being too large.

“I’m not prepared to bring down the size of my cabinet. I saw the need before I put them together,” the President explained.

“You don’t give someone an assignment they cannot fulfill. The job description must be efficient and effective.”

Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s vast population of over 200 million people as a key factor necessitating a robust team.

“Nigeria is a large country. If you are to entertain over 200 million people, just on entertainment, calculate how many stewards you would require,” he said.

The President dismissed calls for downsizing, asserting that each appointee plays a critical role in advancing his administration’s mandate.

“Let’s pay attention to efficiency. Efficiency and effectiveness are the hallmarks of the philosophy behind this cabinet. I’m not ready to shrink it. I need them. Show me one that is not adding value,” he added.
