Joint taskforce cracks down on drug dealers, demolishes criminal hideouts in Ibadan

A joint security taskforce has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities in Ibadan, arresting two suspected drug peddlers and demolishing illegal hideouts in the Orita-Challenge area of Oluyole Local Government.
The operation, which aligns with the taskforce’s renewed efforts to rid the area of drug-related crime and unlawful structures, was led by CSP Mavis Jayeola of the Orita-Challenge Police Command and the Oluyole LGA Environmental Team headed by Engr. Akeem Olatunji. It followed several complaints from residents about rising criminal activities in the neighbourhood.
Engr. Olatunji said the raid specifically targeted illegal structures used as hideouts by criminals. “We received petitions about individuals engaging in robbery, assault, and drug dealing. Despite a 30-day notice to vacate, some refused, prompting immediate action,” he said.
The two arrested individuals were found with substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. Authorities warned others still occupying illegal structures to vacate immediately, stressing the taskforce’s zero tolerance for crime and its commitment to safeguarding residents.
The operation drew support from multiple security agencies, including Amotekun, the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Burst, the Civil Defence, and local vigilante groups.
Community leader Chief Olayinka Banjo commended the action, noting that such efforts boost public confidence in the security measures within Oluyole LGA.
