The traditional ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi has directed that all markets, shops and stalls in Akure, Ondo State be closed on Friday, August 29, 2025 for the observance of the annual Amole Festival.

This was contained in a statement signed by Adeyeye Michael, Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure Land, and made available to journalists on Thursday.

The palace explained that the closure formed part of the rites required to preserve the age-long tradition and culture of the festival, urging traders and residents to strictly comply with the directive.

“There will be no opening of markets, stalls, trading or opening of shops under any guise during the festival. Residents, market women and shop owners are kindly enjoined to abide by this directive and ensure strict observance of the rules,” the statement read.

It, however, noted that pharmacy shops and patent medicine stores were exempted from the order to ensure uninterrupted access to health-related services during the festival.

The palace added that while commercial activities would be suspended, there would be no restriction on human or vehicular movement within the city.

The Deji’s palace further prayed for peace and prosperity in the land, saying, “Akure a gbe a oo.”
