By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, (CFR), has placed a ban on beating of drums within Akure metropolis as he begins his annual Ulefunta leave.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael, said the monarch will commence the traditional seclusion on Monday, September 15, and end on Sunday, September 21.
It warned that the ban on drumming would be strictly enforced during the seven-day period.
The palace also announced that the road leading to the Deji’s Palace will be closed to traffic, while markets, shops, and stalls around the palace will remain shut throughout the Ulefunta.
Residents were also urged to obey the directives as they go about their daily activities without fear.
According to the statement, Oba Aladelusi will use the period to pray for peace and prosperity in Akureland.
The palace stressed that the restrictions were part of age-long traditions surrounding the Ulefunta festival.
