JUST IN: DSS apprehend suspect over attack on Peter Obi in Edo

The Department of State Services has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the attack on the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and some chieftains of the African Democratic Congress in Benin, Edo State.
According to a report by Channels TV, the suspect, identified as Udeme Sunday Stephen, was apprehended following what was described as a thorough investigation by the secret police. His arrest comes days after Obi and several party leaders were attacked at the residence of a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun, in Benin City.
The incident reportedly occurred last Tuesday shortly after Obi and his associates returned from the ADC secretariat, where they had formally received the party’s 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, into the ADC.
According to the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, the group had just concluded the political engagement when the attack took place.
Security authorities have yet to provide further details on the suspect’s alleged role or whether additional arrests are expected.
