JUST IN: Enugu Governor Peter Mbah defects to APC

By Kunle Sanni –

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reportedly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to a report by TheCable on Tuesday, Mbah announced his defection at a press conference in Enugu, citing his desire to align with the APC’s development vision and further the interests of the state.

The governor said his decision followed extensive reflection and consultations, noting that joining the ruling party would enhance opportunities for collaboration and accelerate growth initiatives in Enugu.

“Leadership demands difficult, even painful decisions, in the service of higher principles and goals,” Mbah said. “After long reflection, we have made the decision to join the All Progressives Congress to better serve our people and advance Enugu’s development agenda.”

“To the Peoples Democratic Party, which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude,” he said. “The PDP supported us through a demanding campaign and joined us in celebrating victory.”

Mbah added that his defection was guided by the need to ensure continued progress in governance and to align the state with the federal government’s development programmes.

Mbah was elected in March 2023 on the platform of the PDP. Before entering politics, he was a lawyer, businessman, and founder of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Limited, a major player in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

He also served as Chief of Staff and later Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development under former Enugu Governor Chimaroke Nnamani between 2003 and 2007.
