Suspected kidnappers have abducted a couple in the Eleyewo area near Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, heightening fears over growing insecurity in the community.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening as the victims were returning home, with residents saying the attackers struck at the entrance of the couple’s residence.

The husband, a meat seller popularly known as Shakur, was reportedly taken alongside his wife shortly after they arrived at their house.

A resident who attempted to raise the alarm during the attack was allegedly shot by the gunmen and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.

Sources in the area disclosed that the couple, who married last year, had only recently moved into their newly built home before the incident.

Residents lamented that kidnapping incidents have become frequent in the locality, leaving many families living in fear and unable to sleep peacefully at night.

Angered by the development, residents staged a protest on Saturday, calling on the Ondo State Government and security agencies to take urgent steps to address the worsening security situation in the area.
