Gunmen have reportedly abducted a pregnant woman in the Ayede community of Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night, throwing residents of the area into panic.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the victim, identified as Mrs Mary Jesulayomi, was seized around 7:40 p.m. near the Alagbaka Extension axis of the community.

The source added that an 85-year-old woman, Mrs Mese Ogunleye, was initially taken by the attackers but was later released.

Her husband, Pa Mese Ogunleye, said to be about 90 years old, reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the pregnant woman was the only person currently in captivity.

He said tactical teams had been deployed to the area, adding, “Efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim unhurt and apprehend those responsible.”

Western Post reports that the incident came days after a school proprietress was abducted and three others injured during a similar attack in Ilu-Abo, also in Akure North Local Government Area.
