Makinde inaugurates Oyo Obas’ Council as Olubadan begins two-year term

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday inaugurated the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, assuming office as chairman of the council for a two-year term.
The inauguration ceremony took place in Ibadan, the state capital, marking the commencement of the rotational leadership arrangement of the council. Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, is taking the first turn under the revised structure.
The Alaafin of Oyo was absent from the event.
Oba Ladoja was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in September 2025, following the death of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The inauguration followed the recent passage of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs (Further Amendments) Bill, 2025, by the Oyo State House of Assembly. The amended law is designed to strengthen traditional institution administration across the state.
Under the law, the chairmanship of the council remains rotational, with the position to be held alternately every two years by the Alaafin of Oyo, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and the Soun of Ogbomoso.
