JUST IN: PDP governorship candidates, top leaders join ADC in Ondo

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, two former governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede and Chief Agboola Ajayi, have joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Other prominent political figures have also defected to the ADC. They include former Ondo South Senator Nicholas Tofowomo; former House of Representatives member Prof. Bode Ayorinde; former PDP State Chairman Tola Alabere; and ex-PDP Publicity Secretary Kennedy Peretei.

At the inauguration of the ADC coalition in the state, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, who is serving as the state coordinator, said the movement is rapidly gaining traction across all local government areas in Ondo.

“Our numbers are growing. All the local governments are with us, and the momentum is building daily,” Ayorinde said.

According to Ayorinde, the coalition is not driven by financial inducement but by grassroots mobilisation and the desire for inclusive governance.

He announced that membership cards would soon be distributed at the ward and local government levels to further strengthen the party’s presence.

“The former PDP governorship flagbearers, Senator Tofowomo, Tola Alabere, and Kennedy Peretei—they’re all with us. This coalition is expanding every day,” he noted.

“We started with only 25 members. Today, we are over 300 strong. That tells you how much the people are yearning for change. Ondo will be the first to fully utilise the ADC platform for a true political shift,” he added.

In his remarks, Kennedy Peretei described the formation of the coalition as a timely response to the political and socio-economic challenges facing the country.
