The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Ahungha Village in the Agamo area, following an attack by suspected gunmen.

Western Post had reported earlier that gunmen murdered Oba Faledon in his palace in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the command, the incident was said to have occurred at about 7:10 p.m. when armed men invaded the monarch’s residence and forcefully took him away from his compound.

The police disclosed that information about the attack was reported around 7:50 p.m. by a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, prompting an immediate security response.

According to the command, the monarch was later discovered a few metres from his residence with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.

Following the report, the command added that the Divisional Police Officer, supported by tactical units of the command, swiftly mobilised operatives in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun personnel, to comb nearby bushes and adjoining communities in search of the attackers.

The police stated that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that surveillance and monitoring operations had been intensified across the area to prevent further security breaches.

The command assured residents that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure justice for the slain monarch and restore public confidence in the security architecture.
