Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Epinmi Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area, and recovered a cache of weapons believed to be used for criminal activities.

The arrest followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of Tuesday, June 18, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, a joint operation involving local vigilante operatives and the police led to the apprehension of one Arohunmolase Idowu.

Idowu was reportedly found loitering under suspicious circumstances around 12:30 a.m. at Araromi Isalu Quarters in Epinmi Akoko and was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence at that hour.

His arrest prompted further investigation, during which another suspect, Bada Tosin, 26, also of Epinmi Akoko, was apprehended based on information gathered during the initial interrogation.

Both suspects allegedly led investigators to a secluded building deep in the bush. A search of the premises uncovered two locally made dane guns, four cutlasses, four axes, assorted charms, and other dangerous weapons.

Police operatives also discovered a deep pit at the site, suspected to have been used as a holding place for kidnap victims.

DSP Ayanlade said the suspects and the recovered items have been transferred to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation. He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the suspects’ operations, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
