JUST IN: Police refute claims of bandits’ arrest in Akure airport

By Boye Oyeyemi

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked reports claiming that four bandits were arrested at the Akure Airport, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the command said no such incident occurred at the airport and there was no security breach at the facility.

According to the police, the report circulating on some media platforms is inaccurate and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

The command, however, disclosed that it received credible intelligence from a concerned citizen about the activities of suspected kidnappers around the Eleyewo axis of Akure.

It said operatives swiftly launched a targeted operation in the area, which led to the arrest of two suspects linked to kidnapping activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly serve as logistics suppliers for kidnappers operating within the state.

Police authorities added that the suspects had made useful confessional statements that were assisting ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

The command urged members of the public to disregard the airport arrest report while assuring residents that security around critical infrastructure in the state remains intact.
