JUST IN: Presidency accuses Bauchi governor of playing ‘irresponsible politics’
By Kunle Sanni
The Presidency has accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of engaging in “irresponsible politics” and urged him to focus on addressing the challenges facing his state.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication said this in a statement on Friday.
His came in response to recent comments by the governor who have in the past criticized the critical policy reforms by the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.
In the statement, Dare emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration is committed to fostering national development and strengthening collaboration with state governments and other stakeholders to improve the lives of Nigerians.
“The President Bola Tinubu administration is laser-focused on development and improving the overall well-being of Nigerians,” the statement read.
“This government is dedicated to building stronger collaborations with sub-nationals and other critical stakeholders on matters that affect the lives of Nigerians.”
Addressing concerns about the ongoing Tax Reform Bills, Dare reiterated that the President is open to dialogue and respects the legislative process.
He criticized attempts to undermine this process, calling them “undemocratic and self-serving.”
“President Tinubu is a listening leader who strongly believes in the institutions of state. On the Tax Reform Bills, the President was clear that anyone or groups with concerns should engage through the legislative process. Attempts to stampede or abort this process must be regarded as undemocratic and self-serving,” the statement read.
The Presidency questioned Governor Mohammed’s governance record, suggesting he should prioritize improving the lives of Bauchi residents, who Dare claimed remain among the most impoverished in Nigeria.
“The question for Governor Bala Mohammed is what he is doing to make life better for the people of Bauchi State,” the statement continued.
“How well has he used the increased resources at his disposal to improve the quality of life of his people? Constant blustering and playing irresponsible politics will not relieve him of his duty to the people of Bauchi State, whom his leadership has impoverished.”
Dare further accused the governor of using President Tinubu as a political distraction to bolster his waning public image.
“Governor Bala should face governance and stop using President Tinubu to burnish his vanishing image,” the statement said.
Dare also emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to economic reforms and delivering on his promises to Nigerians.
“President Tinubu is focused on revamping the economy and turning the economic fortunes of the country around. Nigerians have already started to see the real impact of the reforms, and better outcomes will continue to manifest in the weeks and months ahead,” it concluded.
