JUST IN: President Tinubu departs Brazil for Nigeria after BRICS Summit

By Kunle Sanni –

President Bola Tinubu has departed Rio de Janeiro following his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Brazil.

The President left the South American nation at exactly 12:50 p.m. local time on Saturday.

During the summit, President Tinubu engaged in high-level discussions on global governance, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.

A key highlight of the summit was the landmark $1 billion agriculture and energy cooperation deal, initially signed on June 24 during the visit of Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, to Abuja. The agreement was reaffirmed at the summit as a major milestone in bilateral relations.

The deal aims to support mechanised farming, establish training centres, and improve infrastructure, aligning with Tinubu’s agenda to transition Nigeria from subsistence to commercial agriculture.

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the President would return to Nigeria on Saturday after his two-nation visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returns to Abuja today after his two-nation visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil,” the post read.
