JUST IN: President Tinubu departs Ethiopia after AU Summit

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have departed Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after attending the 38th African Union (AU) Summit.
They were both seen off by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at Bole Addis Ababa International Airport.
The summit, which brought together African leaders, focused on key issues such as regional security, economic integration, and the implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Nigeria played a significant role, with the AU endorsing the country as the AfCFTA Digital Trade Champion, recognizing its leadership in digital enterprise and innovation.
During the high-level meetings, President Tinubu engaged in discussions on strengthening intra-African trade, boosting economic cooperation, and enhancing peace efforts across the continent.
Nigeria also called on the African Union (AU) to establish a Combined Maritime Task Force to enhance security in the Gulf of Guinea, with President Tinubu proposing Lagos as its headquarters.
On her part, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also participated in sideline events, engaging with African women leaders on social development initiatives.
Western Post Online reported that she was elected as a member of the Steering Committee of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), the highest decision-making body of the organization.
She also emphasized that Africa’s future prosperity depends on its rich history, vibrant cultures, and, most importantly, the strength of its people-particularly women and youth.
