JUST IN: President Tinubu labels Kaiama massacre ‘cowardly, beastly’

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent deadly attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, describing it as a “cowardly and beastly” act targeting innocent villagers.
In a statement on Thursday, the president said, “It is particularly disturbing that the victims were killed because they rejected an attempt at forced indoctrination. It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a strange belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue.”
Western Post reported earlier that Tinubu met with Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who briefed him on the incident, which reportedly took place in Woro village. Gunmen attacked residents, killing several and leaving many others in fear.
Communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, particularly Woro and Nuku villages, were struck by one of the deadliest violent assaults in Nigeria’s recent history on February 3–4, 2026. Reports indicate that armed extremists stormed the rural settlements, opening fire on residents, burning homes and shops, and abducting civilians.
In response, the President directed the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama and announced the launch of Operation Savannah Shield, a military command aimed at checking the terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities.
He further emphasised that federal and state agencies would collaborate closely to provide relief and support to the affected communities and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. “They will not go scot-free,” Tinubu stressed.
The president also offered his condolences to the families of the victims and assured that the federal government stands with the people of Kwara State, pledging to defend communities, uphold national values, and defeat extremism.
