Residents of Isua-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State took to the streets to protest the increasing cases of killings and abductions in the area.
The protest, which occurred on Wednesday drew a large number of youths and other community members, following what they described as “persistent attacks that have left their town in a state of fear and uncertainty.”
Addressing journalists during the demonstration, the Youth President of Akoko South-East Local Government, Hon. Umoru Kamoru, said the wave of violence has severely disrupted farming and other economic activities in the community, adding that residents now live in constant fear and panic.
He urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently reinforce security presence in the locality, warning that the situation was deteriorating rapidly.
In the same vein, the Youth President of Isua-Akoko community, Mr. Abimbola Oluwafemi, appealed to both the state and federal governments to intervene swiftly in order to prevent further bloodshed.
He further added that the protest was ignited by the recent killing of Ojo Abbey, a youth leader who was allegedly murdered after ransom had been paid for his release.
