JUST IN: Tinubu departs Brazil after signing key bilateral agreements

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu has departed Brazil for Abuja after a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
The presidential jet left Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. local time. Top Brazilian diplomats, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, bid farewell to the Nigerian leader. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior officials were also present at the brief departure ceremony, which featured a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.
President Tinubu arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, where he was received with full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto. During the visit, he held talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture — sectors central to Nigeria’s development agenda.
The agreements are expected to boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, technology transfer, and agricultural investment.
President Tinubu is scheduled to arrive in Abuja later today.
