JUST IN: Tinubu swears In INEC Commissioners, Code of Conduct Bureau members

By Kunle Sanni

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in two new National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during a brief ceremony held on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The appointees are Abdulrazak Tukur, representing the North-West geopolitical zone, and Professor Sunday Nwambam Aja from Ebonyi State, who will serve as Commissioner for the South-East region.

The swearing-in took place at the Council Chambers ahead of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who was present at the ceremony, welcomed the appointments, noting that the new commissioners would help fill existing vacancies within the Commission. He also hinted at ongoing preparations for electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This marks the first time Yakubu has spoken publicly following reports that President Tinubu had allegedly ordered his removal—claims that have since been denied by the Presidency.

In a related development, President Tinubu also administered the oath of office to two newly appointed members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB): Ikpeme Ndem from Cross River State and retired Justice Buba Nyaure from Taraba State.

The appointments are part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen key democratic and governance institutions across the country.
