The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), which has a production capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, has officially resumed operations as part of efforts to revitalize Nigeria’s refining sector.
This significant development was confirmed by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), during a tour of the facility on Monday.
Kyari highlighted the importance of the refinery’s revival, stating that it will play a crucial role in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products and enhancing the nation’s energy security.
“We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running, though not at full capacity yet. We are still in the process of revitalization. Many people think these developments are not real; they believe that tangible progress is impossible in this country. We want you to see that this is indeed real,” Kyari remarked during the tour.
The visit was attended by key industry figures, including Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), along with other stakeholders.
