Kaduna secures $120M Romania-backed deal to drive agro-industrial growth

By Kunle Sanni –
Kaduna State has signed a landmark $120 million agricultural agreement aimed at transforming irrigation farming and boosting food production, following Governor Uba Sani’s recent working visit to Bucharest, Romania.
The deal, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), involves the Kaduna State Government, African Industries Group—led by its Chairman, Mr. Raj Gupta—and the Bank of Agriculture. It will fund large-scale irrigation projects in Gurara and the development of a state-of-the-art greenhouse near the African Industries steel plant in Gujeni.
Governor Sani described the agreement as a “bold leap toward a future where Kaduna stands as a beacon of agro-industrial excellence,” emphasizing its potential to improve food security, generate employment, and establish Kaduna as an export-driven agricultural hub.
The initiative will be anchored in the state’s Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAP-Z) and the Africa Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC), which are designed to equip local farmers with modern tools and standards to compete globally.
Romania’s agricultural expertise and market networks, the governor noted, would further open up international trade opportunities for Kaduna, positioning the state to tap into new markets and partnerships.
He added that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to building a resilient, innovation-driven economy supported by infrastructure development and investor confidence.
“Kaduna’s evolution into one of Nigeria’s premier agricultural and investment destinations is no accident. We are planting the seeds of lasting transformation that will nourish generations and secure Kaduna’s place on the world stage,” Governor Sani said.
