Kano governor pledges loyalty to Kwankwaso amid wave of defections

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his unwavering allegiance to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections.

Yusuf made the declaration on Sunday while addressing 484 local government councillors from the state’s 44 local government areas at the Kano Government House.

He emphasized that his political journey remains tied to that of Kwankwaso, adding that wherever the former governor leads, his followers in Kano will follow.

“Wherever he goes politically, his supporters will follow,” Yusuf said.

His remarks come amid increasing political realignments in Nigeria, including a wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with speculation that some governors may soon jump ship.

The governor tasked the councillors to serve as effective liaisons between the government and the grassroots, urging them to listen to constituents and identify priority needs for prompt intervention.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the state has set aside nearly N5 billion for ward-level infrastructure projects, including classroom renovations and drainage works.

Yusuf also stressed the need for transparency and commitment in executing public projects, emphasizing that funds must be used for initiatives that directly impact the people.
