The Kaduna State Government has announced the immediate lifting of the curfew previously enforced from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. in Kaduna and Zaria. According to the government, the decision will take effect starting Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed that residents are now free to move about without restrictions. He noted that the decision was made after a thorough assessment of the security situation.
Aruwan emphasized the Council’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Kaduna.
However, the Council urged that any public processions or gatherings should be coordinated with relevant authorities to avoid disruptions. Security forces will remain vigilant and continue to monitor for any threats to public peace, with a clear mandate to take action against individuals or groups that pose such threats.
Governor Uba Sani, who presided over the Security Council meeting, praised the efforts of security agencies, religious and traditional leaders, and other key stakeholders for their roles in managing the unrest that followed the #EndBadGovernance protest in Kaduna and Zaria.
The governor reiterated his commitment to an inclusive and participatory approach to governance, vowing to continue engaging with stakeholders to ensure peace, unity, and development in Kaduna State.
“The Kaduna State Security Council, during an extensive assessment held last night, unanimously recommended the removal of the curfew and reiterated its commitment to the security and safety of the citizens of Kaduna State,” the statement said.
