Keyamo commissions E-Gate, CNG buses at Lagos airport

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, unveiled a new electronic gate (E-gate) at the departure wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The initiative, driven by FAAN in partnership with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), is part of efforts to enhance passenger comfort and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The E-gate installation leverages technology to streamline passenger processing, reduce wait times, and provide a seamless travel experience. Speaking at the commissioning, Minister Keyamo highlighted his administration’s commitment to leveraging innovation to address operational challenges in the aviation sector.

“This is not just about improving facilities; it’s about delivering a better experience for Nigerians and all travelers passing through our airports,” said Keyamo.

As part of the same event, four new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses were introduced for passenger use in Lagos. These eco-friendly buses are designed to cater to all demographics, including persons with special needs, demonstrating inclusivity and environmental responsibility.

“The commissioning of these CNG-powered buses underscores Nigeria’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in line with global climate goals,” added the minister.

The initiatives reflect the government’s broader Public-Private Partnership (PPP) strategy aimed at infrastructure development and sustainability. Collaborating with UBA Group has enabled the aviation sector to adopt sustainable and efficient solutions, in line with international best practices.

The new E-gate and buses are expected to significantly improve passenger satisfaction, reduce Nigeria’s carbon footprint, and bolster the country’s reputation as a hub for regional and international travel.
