Keyamo demands review of BASA Agreement between Nigeria, Algeria

The Federal Government has requested that the Bilateral Air Service Agreement between Algeria and Nigeria be reviewed, noting that the need for a direct service to Abuja will be met.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this to Algeria Ambassador to Nigeria, Hacine Lalti, who paid him a visit in his Abuja office on Tuesday.

Keyamo stated that the meetings of aviation engineers from both countries, which were originally scheduled for December, would be pushed back to November 7th in order to expedite the BASA agreement assessment, as desired.
Earlier, the Algerian Ambassador, Mr. Hacine Lalti, thanked the minister for inviting him.

He urged that the July 14th, 2022 agreement be reviewed to include a direct flight to Abuja, claiming that the Algerian government has identified Nigeria and South Africa as business potential and is eager to partner with them.

While welcoming the Ambassador for his visit, Keyamo stated that Nigeria and Algeria have a long history of friendship.

He stated that the direct flight would represent the start of a collaboration between the two countries, while emphasising that free trade agreements between African countries could only be easily reached through open skies.
