By Boye Oyeyemi –
The abductors of Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, have reduced their ransom demand to N7 million, five days after he was kidnapped.
WESTERN POST had reported that Eleyinmi, who serves as a faculty officer in the university’s Faculty of Education, was reportedly taken in front of his home in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area, as he returned from work.
The incident, which threw the community into panic, saw the gunmen firing shots as they whisked the victim away.
A source revealed that Eleyinmi’s wife narrowly escaped the scene, having come out to welcome him when the kidnappers struck.
The source stated, “The abductors initially demanded a sum of N100 million ransom, but after an appeal by the family, it was later reduced to N7 million. On Wednesday, they allowed him to speak with his wife.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, had mobilised tactical commanders for a rescue operation.
“We are assuring the people of Ondo State that we are on top of the situation, and we are not resting on our oars,” the PPRO stated.
