Kogi allocates over ₦7bn to revamp 88 Primary Healthcare Centres
The Kogi State Government has announced plans to invest over ₦7 billion in the revitalization of 88 additional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state’s 21 local government areas.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo made this known during a ceremony at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in Felele, Lokoja. The event marked the official handover of the project sites to contractors for the upgrade.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, the Governor emphasized the administration’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery across the state.
This new phase of revitalization follows the earlier approval and ongoing upgrade of over 70 PHCs, which are at various stages of completion. With these efforts, more than 150 PHCs in Kogi will be transformed into functional Level-2 health facilities, enhancing access to quality healthcare for residents.
Governor Ododo described the initiative as a cornerstone of the state’s strategic healthcare plan, implemented with support from the World Bank.
“As we step into the New Year 2025, we are proud to launch the upgrade of 88 additional PHCs across the state, complementing the ongoing upgrade of 70 PHCs to functional Level-2 facilities,” he stated.
“This project, funded with over ₦7 billion, reflects our unwavering dedication to achieving effective healthcare delivery and universal health coverage for our people.”
The Governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing grassroots healthcare access and acknowledged the foundational work of former Governor Yahaya Bello in the state’s health sector.
Governor Ododo called on contractors to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and ensure timely project completion within four months. He urged them to work closely with local government authorities and community stakeholders to adopt an inclusive approach while safeguarding social and environmental standards.
The Governor further appealed to community leaders and residents to take ownership of the projects, ensuring the protection of personnel, equipment, and the completed healthcare centres.
He also directed relevant government authorities, under the coordination of the state Ministry of Health, to oversee effective supervision of the projects.
