Kunle Afolayan denies loan claims, says he owes no one

By Folashade Olorunfemi –

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has dismissed viral online reports claiming that First Bank dragged him to court over an alleged N5 billion loan obtained to finance his 2022 movie, Anikulapo.

The reports alleged that Afolayan borrowed the money to produce the epic film, repaid only half of the loan after Netflix acquired it, and had been issued a court summons over the outstanding balance.

Reacting on his Instagram page on Friday, Afolayan said he initially had no intention of responding to the claims but decided to do so because of the concerns expressed by his friends and well-wishers.

He stated that he has a good relationship with First Bank and has collaborated with the institution in the past, but denied taking any loan from the bank, adding that Anikulapo was a co-production between Golden Effect and Netflix and that no money was owed to anyone.

“If I see a bank that will give me N5 billion, I’ll definitely take it because I’ll use it for the betterment of the nation,” he said.

Afolayan also warned those behind the false report to expect legal action, insisting they would hear from him.
