KWAM 1 withdraws court case over Awujale selection process

Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1, has withdrawn the lawsuit he filed at the High Court of Justice seeking to halt the ongoing selection process for a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

A notice of discontinuation was formally filed on Monday, December 22, 2025, by his legal team led by Dr Wahab Shittu, SAN, effectively bringing an end to the suit and his challenge to the process.

The withdrawal came shortly after Hon. Justice A. A. Omoniyi of High Court 3, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, dismissed an application by KWAM 1 for an interim injunction to restrain the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and other parties from proceeding with the selection of a new Awujale. The court ruled that the application lacked merit.

Justice Omoniyi, however, held that the substantive suit could be heard expeditiously and fixed January 14, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings before the notice of discontinuation was filed.

KWAM 1, who holds the title of Olori OmoOba of Ijebuland from the Fidipote Ruling House, had approached the court following a decision by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House declaring that he was not a bona fide member and therefore not eligible to vie for the stool under its platform.

With the filing of the notice of discontinuation, KWAM 1 has formally withdrawn from both the legal challenge and the ongoing selection process for the Awujale of Ijebuland.
