Kwankwaso, Aregbesola meet in Lagos, discuss national politics

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, met with former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, at his Lagos residence on Saturday to discuss national political issues and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
Kwankwaso, who shared details of the meeting on social media, described the engagement as an opportunity to deliberate on governance and the political direction of the country.
“The meeting afforded us the opportunity to engage in discussions on national politics, governance, and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape,” Kwankwaso wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The meeting comes at a time when opposition leaders are being urged to form a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 elections.
Aregbesola, a former close ally of President Tinubu, distanced himself from the president following disagreements over the second-term ambition of ex-Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso, a two-term Kano governor and former minister, was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections.
The discussion between both politicians has sparked speculation about potential alliances ahead of the next electoral cycle.
