Kwankwaso opens NNPP office in Ibadan, pays courtesy visit to Makinde

Former presidential candidate and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Musa Kwankwaso, on Wednesday inaugurated the party’s office in Ibadan, strengthening the NNPP’s presence in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election.

During the visit, Kwankwaso also paid a courtesy call on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Government Secretariat in Ibadan. The meeting was held behind closed doors, and no official details were disclosed, though it was seen as a continuation of the longstanding cordial relationship between the two leaders.

Kwankwaso was accompanied by top NNPP officials, including the National Chairman, Dr. Ajid Ahmed, and the National Publicity Secretary, Najipo Johnson. Speaking after the visit, he said the primary purpose of his trip was to inaugurate the new state office and strengthen the party’s structure and unity in Oyo State.

He described his interaction with Governor Makinde as transcending party lines, emphasising that it was rooted more in personal friendship than partisan politics. “Before proceeding to the party office, I felt it was important to pay a courtesy visit to the governor, who has always been our friend,” Kwankwaso said.

Highlighting his political journey, Kwankwaso recalled his early involvement in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that he helped establish the party in 1998 and served as governor of Kano State and later as minister of defence. He later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) before aligning with the NNPP, where he currently serves as national leader.

Kwankwaso added that he and his team would return to Abuja after the inauguration, while stressing that the visit was focused on party consolidation and not immediate electoral negotiations.

Political observers believe the engagement could signal early consultations and potential alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, even as both leaders maintained that the meeting was primarily personal.

The NNPP office in Ibadan is expected to serve as a hub for the party’s activities in Oyo State, helping to coordinate grassroots mobilisation and strengthen organisational presence in the region ahead of the next general election.
