Kwara Commissioner urges residents to actively participate in sanitation exercises

The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Ms. Nafisat Buge, has urged residents of Kwara to utilize the designated environmental sanitation exercise hours to clean their surroundings effectively.

Speaking during the August environmental sanitation exercise in Ilorin, Buge emphasized that these hours are not solely for restricting movement but are specifically meant for cleaning the environment to promote public health and hygiene.

Buge reminded residents that the environmental sanitation exercise is scheduled for the last Saturday of every month and has recently been extended from two hours to three hours to ensure thorough cleaning.

“Today’s exercise was good, though not completely satisfactory. We will address the challenges and areas for improvement in our post-sanitation exercise meeting,” she said. “We will look at the flaws and grey areas and work on them accordingly.”

The Commissioner noted that many environmental officers have started conducting house-to-house inspections, which prompted the extension of the sanitation period from two to three hours.

“Sanitation exercises are for everyone. A clean environment leads to a healthy environment,” Buge stated. “My advice to everyone is to stay home and clean your surroundings during every sanitation day. It’s not just about movement restrictions; our goal is to achieve a clean and healthy environment in Kwara.”
