The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the murder of a farmer, Mr. Azeez Garba, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of the state.
The police commissioner condemned the killing, describing it as cruel, senseless and unacceptable. He subsequently directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to deploy all available investigative and intelligence resources to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi. According to the statement, the command had already commenced intensive efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary findings showed that Garba left for his farm in the morning but did not return home as expected, prompting his family members and local vigilantes to begin a search. The search party later found his motorcycle parked on the farm.
Shortly afterward, the victim’s lifeless body was discovered a short distance away from where the motorcycle was found. Police said the deceased had sustained deep machete wounds, suggesting that he was violently attacked by his assailants.
Meanwhile, the command disclosed that no arrest had been made as of the time the statement was issued. It, however, assured the bereaved family, residents of Isin Local Government Area and the general public that every available lead was being diligently pursued.
The police further stated that investigators were working tirelessly to identify all those connected with the killing and ensure they are brought to justice. It added that intelligence gathering and other investigative measures had been intensified to facilitate a breakthrough in the case.
The Kwara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, assuring residents that it would not relent until everyone responsible for the gruesome murder was apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
