Kwara Governor approves financial bonus to ease economic strain on workers

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a financial bonus for all civil servants in the state, including local government workers, equivalent to their monthly PAYE (Pay-As-You-Earn) tax obligation. This emergency support will provide relief for at least three months.
In a statement on Monday, Finance Commissioner Dr. Hauwa Nuru said the bonus aims to ease the impact of recent PAYE adjustments on workers’ salaries following the implementation of the new minimum wage. “This bonus serves as a buffer to help workers adjust to the accurate PAYE deductions now in place, as mandated by the Personal Income Tax Act,” she explained.
The bonus will be paid from October through December 2024. Workers are also advised to register with the Kwara State Residents’ Registration Agency (KWSRRA) to be eligible for the November and December bonuses.
The statement noted that labor unions have agreed to refund a special levy previously deducted from workers’ salaries and to suspend further deductions until further notice.
“Governor Abdulrazaq’s directive reflects his compassion and commitment to the welfare of the Kwara workforce,” Dr. Nuru added.
