The Kwara State Government has taken disciplinary action against a school teacher accused of maltreating a youth corps member posted to Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.

In a joint statement by the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Abubakar, the government announced that an investigative panel found Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike guilty of several misconducts. These include fighting while on duty, using foul language, insubordination, and disrespecting the national identity symbolized by the corps members’ uniform.

The statement noted that her actions violated public service rules. As a result, she has been demoted by two grade levels. Additionally, the teacher will be transferred to another school and required to undergo counseling sessions.

“The State Government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise. We deeply regret the teacher’s actions and reassure the National Youth Service Corps management that this incident does not reflect the values of the state. Measures have been put in place to ensure it does not happen again,” the statement read.

The government also urged teachers across the state to adhere to public service rules and maintain professionalism in their duties. It emphasized its commitment to providing regular training on teaching ethics and service procedures to enhance the quality of education in Kwara State.
