The Kwara State Government has disclosed that it successfully executed more than 190 road projects across the three senatorial districts between 2023 and late 2024, in line with its renewed infrastructural development agenda.
Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Abdulquawiy Olododo, made this known in Ilorin during the 45th edition of the Media Parliament organised by the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Olododo explained that the projects cut across major rural connectors and smaller urban access routes, adding that they were strategically designed to boost transportation, enhance rural–urban integration, and improve the livelihoods of residents.
Among the notable roads completed are the 21-kilometre Esie Road, the 12-kilometre Ajase-Ipo Road, and the 2-kilometre Omu Aran–Oko stretch. Others include the 5-kilometre Oko–Oro Ago Road and the Ilesha Baruba–Gwanara corridor, which serve as vital community feeder roads.
The commissioner further revealed that the government has provided counterpart funding for the 209.77-kilometre Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). The initiative, he said, is targeted at linking farming communities with markets to reduce post-harvest losses and strengthen agricultural productivity.
While many of the projects have been completed, others are at advanced stages, underscoring Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s determination to expand access and promote economic growth across the state.
Beyond road infrastructure, Olododo noted that the state’s Fire Service recorded remarkable improvements in emergency response. Between 2023 and 2024, the agency saved properties worth over ₦17 billion from fire incidents, though ₦817 million worth of assets were lost within the same period.
Commending the government’s efforts, NUJ State Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre’ Ahmed, said the infrastructural drive has not only transformed the aesthetics of Ilorin and other towns but has also boosted business activities and restored public confidence in governance.
