The Kwara State Government has commended residents for their enthusiastic participation in Project 10 Million, a health initiative implemented across the state’s 16 local government areas. The government described the compliance level as a testament to Kwara’s reputation as the “State of Harmony.”

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, made this remark at her office in Ilorin.

Dr. El-Imam explained that the project aims to screen 10 million Nigerians, including 196,913 individuals from Kwara State, for hypertension and blood sugar levels.

“The exercise, which ran from October 28 to November 10, 2024, achieved significant success thanks to the cooperation of various stakeholders,” she stated.

“These include members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers led by the Emir of Ilorin, executive chairpersons of the 16 local government areas, the Office of the Head of Service, health workers, ad-hoc staff, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Muslim Society, market leaders, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, media practitioners, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other development partners.”

Dr. El-Imam highlighted that during the exercise, 102,452 people were screened across the state, placing Kwara among the leading states in the implementation of Project 10 Million. She described this as a remarkable achievement for the state among the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

She expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, for his unwavering support, which she credited with positioning Kwara as a top-performing state in the project.

Describing the initiative as one of the largest health interventions targeted at adults regardless of gender, the Commissioner urged Kwarans to make regular checks of their blood pressure and sugar levels a habit. This, she said, is essential for reducing the prevalence of hypertension and high mortality rates in the country.
