By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –

Several kidnap victims have regained their freedom in Kwara State following a security operation that dislodged criminal hideouts in the Babasango axis of Babanla, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

According to security sources and community leaders, the victims fled after their captors abandoned the area during a raid that lasted between Sunday night and Monday morning.

“The operation has recorded modest success despite an ambush on the security team. Several criminals were neutralised, and dozens of victims managed to escape. Many of them are now in Babanla and Shagbe,” a source confirmed.

He added that a forest guard earlier feared dead during the operation had since returned safely.

A government source explained that the kidnappers, overwhelmed by the onslaught of security forces, fled in different directions, leaving their captives behind.

“Many of the abductors died during the exchange, while others escaped. Though more needs to be done, the Sunday night raid represents a significant success in the ongoing efforts to root out criminal elements in the state,” the source stated.

Community leaders in Babanla have also reported the presence of several freed victims who escaped from the Babasango hideouts following the raid.
