Kwara lawmakers approve nominees for KWSIEC

Kwara State House of Assembly on Thursday confirmed the appointments of nominees for positions of chairman and members of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC).
The confirmation of the nominees was considered by the Committee of the Whole, chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu after thorough screening on the floor of the House
The nominees are Muhammad Baba-Okanla (Ilorin West) as chairman, while Fredrick Sabi Abel (Baruten), Hassan Taiye Salami Oyun (Ekiti), Ndama Al-Hassan (Edu), Saka Baliqees Kehinde (Ilorin South), Abdullahi Janet Amdat (Ilorin East) are to serve as members.
Responding to questions from the lawmakers, Baba-Okanla, promised to be impartial in the conduct of local government polls in the state.
He reaffirmed the constitutional expectation of the electoral umpire of providing level playing field for participating political parties before, during, and after local government elections
Also, speaking, a member of the Commission, Hassan Taiye-Salami, charged the political class to always imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship to ensure hitch free polls
Salami assured lawmakers of interfacing with credible Civil Society Organizations and other relevant stakeholders to engender transparent electoral process.
The Speaker, after the confirmation, directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimah Kperogi to communicate the Resolution of the House to the governor.
